Mother's Chocolate Pie

2 Cups sugar

4 tbsp. flour

6 tbsp. cocoa

dash of salt

4 egg yolks, beaten (reserve whites for meringue)

1 1/2 cups sweet milk

1 tsp. vanilla

1/2 cup margarine

 

in a 8-inch cold iron skillet, mix sugar, flour, cocoa and salt.  add egg yolks and milk.  Mix well.  Add margarine and vanilla.  cook over medium heat, stirring constantly.  When very thick, pour into a baked 9-inch pie shell.  Use egg whites to make meringue.

 

MERINGUE:

 

4 egg whites

1 tsp. cream of tartar

1/8 tsp. salt

1/2 cup sugar

 

Beat egg whites and salt until frothy.  Beat in the cream of tartar and continue beating until soft peaks are formed.  Gradually beat in sugar and beat until very firm.  Spread over pie and bake until golden brown.  Oven at 325 F
