Operations Division

The Operations Division of the Tyler Fire Department is overseen by the Assistant Fire Chief of Operations, Les Schminkey.

The Operations Division oversees the Suppression Division of the Fire Department. The Suppression Division is comprised of 144 personnel on three shifts and includes 10 Fire Stations and 15 pieces of Frontline Apparatus including Pumpers, Ladder Trucks, Aircraft Rescue/Firefighting Vehicles and Command Vehicles.

The Suppression Division provides emergency response to fires, rescues, EMS calls and a myriad of public assistance calls 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Suppression personnel are trained in Structural and Wldland Firefighting, Emergency Medical Care, Hazardous Materials Response and Technical Rescue Operations. Technical Rescue Operations include Vehicle Extrication, High Angle Rescue, Trench Rescue, Confined Space Rescue and Swift Water Rescue.

Tyler Fire Stations are located throughout the City to provide emergency response to all areas in the shortest time possible. The average emergency response time is 4 minutes and 10 seconds. The Tyler Fire Department responds to more than 10,000 calls each year.
